Playa Gigante, Nicaragua |
Most Spanish language programs that include homestays are in cities with modern amenities. Until a few years ago, Playa Gigante was a very remote fishing village. Most residents still live in small houses with dirt floors and no indoor plumbing. |
We are located in a town called “Playa Gigante,” which is also known as “Pie de Gigante” or “Foot of the Giant.” Legends about how this name came to be vary. Some say that there are bones from a giant embedded in the bedrock along the beach; others suggest that the rocky headland on the south end of the beach looks like a giant foot. |
We do not offer college credit at this time, but hope to offer this in the future. Although program coordinator Dr. Rob Dull is a university professor, Escuela Bigfoot is in no way associated with his employer. We are happy to provide material from our curriculum for students whose universities may require it for independent study credits. |
